What to do with an exploding motorcycle engine?

While you were lighting your proud steed, you have just witnessed a disturbing phenomenon, to say the least, a motorcycle engine exploding! You have then surely dropped everything for fear of breaking your engine and to have to buy a motorbike

You may have even resigned yourself a little to this being the case. So, rest assured, this is not necessarily true and we will see together where this problem can come from.

You will then realize that it is sometimes a benign problem which is at the origin of this explosion which is suddenly much more impressive than worrying in fact. For that, we made you a small list of problems which could be at the origin.

Finally, if ever you do not find the solution to your problem, we still advise you not to over-run your exploding motorcycle engine in order to prevent the problem from potentially worsening.

Contact your usual mechanic to see what to do with him. He could even take care of picking up your motorbike directly from your home to take a look at it once brought back to his workshop.

What is an exploding motorcycle engine?

The first thing to check is that we are talking about the same thing when we talk about an exploding motorcycle engine. Indeed, we saw in our article on the slamming engine that it's easy not to talk about the same thing.

There, we are indeed talking about an engine which is still running, but which makes explosion noises which come from the exhausts of your machine, not of an engine which has just died.

If your engine does not work at all after the explosion, we strongly advise you to see this problem with a professional, but the problem in question may be much more serious than what we will discuss below.

Indeed, we will subsequently discuss the causes of these explosions in the exhausts of your motorcycle. Explosions that surprised you and scared you so scared a few minutes ago.

Exploding motorcycle engine, often a partially burnt gas problem

For the first problem that we are going to discuss, it is about a very particular type of engine which explodes. Indeed, this phenomenon generally occurs once or twice when starting your machine and stops.

If the phenomenon continues afterwards, you don't even need to dwell on this trick; you can skip ahead to the next two, which look in more detail at the issues that may be causing them.

But if this is your case, the good news is that it is a benign problem! These are actually partially burnt gases that are sent to your exhaust. However, as its name suggests, it is partially burnt.

It will therefore end up burning in your exhaust, which will cause a loud noise and a flame. If this problem does not recur, you do not have to be particularly concerned.

A candle at the end of its life?

Now let's tackle the more annoying problems that may explain why you have a motorcycle engine exploding. Here we are going to talk about spark plugs, the element that manages the combustion of gasoline within your engine.

For this, these candles will emit sparks to ignite the fuel. However, if one or more of your candles were to be at the end of their life, they could be the cause of that explosion noise you hear.

It is then quite simple to solve this problem, check the candles and change the candle (s) that you think are at the end of their life. If you don't know how, here is a tutorial that explains how to do it.

However, if you are afraid of going the wrong way or do not know how to test whether your candles are still good or not, do not go into this business and call in a professional who will know how to do it and tell you if. the problem is there or not.

A bad carburetor adjustment can explain a motorcycle engine that explodes

Finally, we are going to see one of the elements that alone can explain almost any problem you might encounter, including a motorcycle engine exploding, we are of course talking about the carburetor.

We already know that a bad setting of this one can cause a whole bunch of problems, but what you did not know is that it can even go as far as causing those famous explosions that frighten you so much.

This is a testament to what is called a mixture that is too rich, understand, too much gasoline for the amount of air present. It is the fact that this mixture is rich which will result in an exploding motorcycle engine.

To solve this problem, you will therefore have to find the settings recommended by your manufacturer and apply them. If you can't do it on your own or if that doesn't solve the problem, see it again with a professional mechanic who will be able to fix the problem.
