My motorcycle has misfires, what should I do?

You were off to a good start, everything was fine until you encountered a problem with a hole in the acceleration. The motorcycle, despite all its power, it can still fail. Failures can be caused by a dysfunction internal or by incorrect settings. It can happen that at some point, our bike has misfires while accelerating. This can come from a fault or from a worn part. No matter the model or brand, no one is immune from this problem. It is therefore not a rare case. It therefore deserves to carry out some checks. We'll have to tweak the bike and improvise as a mechanic.

You are now at your end, you have probably tried everything. If at times you have managed to resolve the issue, it may come back at any time. There are even cases where you can't do it. Before calling a specialist, it deserves to carry out some manipulations. Here are 5 reasons that can be at the origin of your motorcycle misfires.

The 5 reasons that your motorcycle has misfires

When you encounter this kind of problem, you don't know what to expect. Since finding the source of the malfunction is not always easy. Not everyone is necessarily skilled in mechanics. It is necessary to have acquired empirical knowledge in the matter. Here are five reasons that can cause a motorcycle to misfire.

1. A faulty water hose

An S-shaped water hose connects the top of the engine and the airbox. It provides the water line for engine cooling. You don't need disassembly to see it. It is located behind the potentiometer. It may harden over time. This phenomenon could cause cracking. Subsequently, water could escape and the cooling system will be disturbed. The engine will tend to heat up quickly. Not to mention other anomalies that may arise. A cracked hose must be replaced to remedy this problem.

2. Carburetor problem

A motorcycle's carburetor is used to mix air and gasoline so that they are routed to the engine. It is really essential to adjust it properly because it could cause the bike to fail. To do this, consult the manual of your motorcycle. In case you cannot find it, go to the official website or contact the manufacturer. Don't forget to clean the entire carburetor to remove any grime that it may have accumulated over time.

3. Catalyst problem

The catalyst is a component on the exhaust of a motorcycle. It is covered with precious metals. Its role is to pass the exhaust gas. Carbon monoxide escapes outside through honeycomb ducts. It is necessary to check that the exhaust system is functional, that the catalyst is not clogged. In the event that the latter is clogged, the best possible solution is to replace it.

4. Defective gearbox output pinion

The gearbox output pinion is a part which transmits power from the engine to the rear wheel via the chain. If this part is small, it may reduce the top speed performance. So try to change it with a larger model.

5. Ignition problem

The ignition system of a motorcycle is made up of several elements, such as the battery and its terminals, the various starter cables and also the spark plugs. It is necessary to check them one by one and meticulously. An anomaly present in one of these elements could cause a loss of power. Do not forget to check that the spark plugs are tight and that their threads are well inserted.

Some tips to help you overcome your problem of misfires on your motorcycle

It may happen that despite all the manipulations, the motorcycle still misfires in acceleration. In this case it is necessary to deepen the checks and redo the manipulations.

Try to reset the injection, it worked on several motorcycles. This is how to proceed, start your motorcycle, as soon as the fan turns on, wait 13 minutes and do not touch anything during this time. You can use your smartphone's stopwatch. After that your problem should go away.

Make sure there is no fuel leak, that there is no air intake. It is also essential to check if the chain on your secondary transmission is slack.

Take the time to disassemble, clean and adjust your idling system, also check the setting of your richness, it should not be too rich or too lean.

Finally, clean the elements of the carburettor, in particular the fuel tap and its filter.
