Oil warning light of a flashing scooter: what to do?

A warning light is a light or sound signal that serves as a warning on a dashboard. The instrument panel is a control and measurement instrument comprising mainly, the indicators of coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level indicators, tachometer (speedometers) and the engine speed tachometers. We will rather focus on the oil warning light of a flashing scooter. The oil pressure warning light indicates a drop in oil pressure inside the engine lubrication system. The oil pressure sensor is located at the bottom of the engine, in the engine block. It receives the oil pressure in real time and sends this information to the computer or to the dashboard.

The information is materialized by a red indicator on the dashboard. By default, the indicator lights up when the engine is off. As a result, the indicator goes out when the engine is running. If the indicator stays on or flashes with the engine running, the oil pressure will be insufficient to lubricate the engine. As soon as the pressure drops to 0,7 to 0,4 kgf / cm2, the membrane straightens, the pressure switch closes and causes the warning light to come on.

Scooters - general information

Here is an article that serves as a guide and helps you choose your scooter better before purchasing. For this, we give you the details on the characteristics and the different types of scooter.

Oil warning light of a flashing scooter

Malfunctions of the engine lubrication system result in clogging of the oil and reduced or high pressure in the system. The reduced pressure inside the lubrication system is caused by insufficient oil level, oil dilution, oil leaks, wear of oil pump parts, crankshaft bearings and camshaft jamming of the relief valve in the open position a faulty oil pressure sensor. Several factors influence the natural wear of parts. These are in particular: the nature and character of the friction. There is also the relative displacement speed of the rubbing surfaces and the initial state of these surfaces (roughness, hardening,…). Not to mention the quality and quantity of lubricant you use, as well as the presence of abrasive particles.

It is also necessary to know the color of the indicator well and also to know how to interpret it. The oil sight glass of a scooter is represented by a burette, like a bottle with a neck comparable to a small watering can. It is the same as the other warning lights such as: low battery, brake failure, abnormal coolant temperature. When you switch on the ignition, these lights come on, but they go out once the scooter has been started.

The different types of oil warning light on a flashing scooter

There are two kinds of oil sight glass color: red oil sight glass and yellow oil sight glass. Is your oil sight glass red? It is an alarm light, indicating that the oil pressure is too low. In this case, check the oil level and top up if necessary. If the oil light of a red colored scooter still comes on again after starting your scooter. You have to stop the engine, identify the source of the fault and go to a garage or consult a mechanic, as there may be a fault or wear in the parts (fault in the oil pump or oil pressure sensor). In this case, the part must be changed.

Besides, if the oil sight glass on your scooter is yellow in color, it is also a warning that the oil level is low. In this case, it is necessary to top up the oil in the tank. For this, it is necessary to have an oil container in your possession.

Oil warning light of a flashing scooter: advice to follow

To avoid as much as possible having an oil warning light on a scooter flashing, we advise you to always check your oil pressure as often. You can use a pressure gauge for this. The pressure gauge must be installed on the support of the oil filter (the correct result is between 3 and 4 bar.). Choose the oil carefully, because its function is to lubricate the engine and to prevent friction between the various parts of the engine. Changing your oil filter is also something that should not be minimized. Oil also has the role of preventing wear of parts, so it is necessary to change from time to time to remove bad oils. On the other hand, avoid putting too much oil, because the latter will overflow into the engine which will be subsequently burned by itself and cause the engine to run away.

Go to a specialist to change parts to avoid paying and repay even more than necessary. But, above all that the part in question is very well installed where it should be. It is also necessary to choose a good part to replace the one that is no longer in working order. Regular maintenance will prevent any risk of accident and wear and tear on your parts.
