My motorcycle does not kick start, what should I do?

We can all one day encounter this kind of problem, the motorcycle that refuses to démarrer. Despite the blows given to the kick, nothing helped. It can ruin our day especially when we are in a hurry and we are already in a hurry. At this moment, a mixture of feelings can overwhelm us, nervousness and impatience. And in the end we only have one possible solution, to push it a few meters. But we can say that in the long run it can be really annoying and that not everyone has the patience and the strength to do it.

It is true that not everyone is necessarily skilled in mechanics. Knowing that the intervention of a mechanic is not free, we would like to solve the problem by ourselves or get help free of charge. Here are 5 checks to make when the motorcycle does not kick start.

The 5 reasons why your motorcycle does not kick start

So far, no manufacturer has succeeded in producing a perfect motorcycle. Even though improvements have been made to current models, motorcycles can still fail. There are many factors that can cause starting difficulties and the list is not exhaustive. It is therefore necessary to carry out some checks. Here are five points of the reasons that can cause your motorcycle to not kick start.

1. Worn spark plugs.

For motorcycles, spark plugs are used to generate an electric spark inside a combustion chamber to ignite the air-fuel mixture. Unfortunately, these candles do not live on forever. It can therefore happen that due to wear, they do not do their job very well. In this case, they must be replaced with new spark plugs. To check that the spark plugs are still in good condition, they must be removed. The electrode must be of a café au lait color, it must be very dry and must not contain any fat. In the event that a whitish soot appears there, it is necessary to proceed to cleaning with a clean cloth.

2. The air filter is dirty or worn.

The air filter made from fabric and fiber is used to filter particles and impurities to purify the air that will mix with the fuel. However, this filter can get dirty easily from the particles it has accumulated over time. You have the option of cleaning it using a special tool, but it is better to replace it with a new one.

3. The motorcycle does not roll enough

The term running-in is probably the most appropriate. This consists of driving for several kilometers to put all the parts of the vehicle in place. During this, the engine speed tends to increase gradually. A new motorcycle needs to be driven 1000 kilometers. Driving can therefore be a solution to overcome this problem of starting at the Kick. So remember to do it from time to time.

4. The piston ring is worn.

The segment of piston is a ring that serves as an umbrella for the piston. Its role is to protect the combustion chamber from any rising oil coming from the crankcase. In the event that this part presents an anomaly, the motorcycle will lose power. The two causes that can cause it to wear out are dirt or excess fuel. To check the wear on the segment we must observe the piston, on the exhaust there must be traces of combustion between the two segments on the other hand, there must not be on the turn or under the second segment.

5. Wrong carburetor adjustment

The carburetor of a motorcycle ensures the mixture of fuel and air. If the float of a carburetor is set too high, the fuel will not be stopped in time. An enormous quantity of gasoline will then arrive in the tank, this can subsequently cause an overflow and a blockage at the level of the piston. In the worst case scenario, it can start a fire. Otherwise, a setting that is too low results in a mixture that is too lean.

Some tips to overcome the difficulties of starting with the kicker

It may happen that despite several tries, the motorcycle does not manage to start. Even when we have used all the available means.

In the event that the motorcycle has difficulty starting due to a mixture that is too lean. Usually you just need to tap the carburetor to unlock everything.

To achieve a kick start on the first try on the 2 times you have to switch on the ignition, open the valve, a little choke for the cold start and at the end we lower the kick with determination but without exaggeration.

It is necessary to regularly check the parts which are used for the good starting of the motorcycle, to make sure that the carburettor is not clogged, that the segment seals well and that the spark plugs are very clean.
